We have a full-time vet!

In the past we often had difficulties finding vets who would work for us for the whole year. We were dependent on recruiting volunteers from Europe to help us with the neutering campaigns. Unfortunately, there were times when we weren’t able to find reliable volunteers.

However, we’ve now taken steps to improve our work by recruiting Dr. Guilherme Oliveira to support SIMABÔ. Dr. Guilherme studies veterinary medicine in Brazil before he went back to Sao Vicente. Since the beginning of July, he is been working in our clinic.

On this picture, Dr. Guilherme (right hand side) is supporting Dr. Salvador Mascarenhas, who voluntarily supported us in May. Both doctors are from Sao Vicente, where they employ their knowledge and skill to support their communities.

In his everyday work, the vet at SIMABÔ neuter cats, dogs and treat emergency cases, particularly animals without an owner who have been run over by cars. Animals, whose owners are not able to afford vet treatment, are also treated. After the animals have recovered, they are neutered in order to reduce the number of animals on the streets.
